NOT KNOWING

… continues in the style of the EXISTENCE THEATRE, a term and performance style, created by AIP that questions certain aspects and daily banalities of human identity/identities. What do we really know: about the world, about others, about ourselves?

This performance piece talks about how we miss out to live and how we fail trying to make a certain place our home.
In an abstract tale a woman appears to be transplanted to a different living environment. She suddenly cherishes particular cultural patterns that she would normally rather like to ignore or value as ridiculous behaviour. While she holds on to her first and native language, she also tries hard to adjust to something that she knows doesn’t belong to her and never will. During her attempt to find out what that something is, she feels to become more and more foreign, not only to her new home but to the world at large and mostly to herself.

She is attended but an eccentric figure that in fact is her weak soul, personified as to be her only true companion in this endless hunt for love, approval and emotional security. The woman’s abstract monologue in its original version is a text written by bello benischauer and was edited, translated and revised for the performance by elisabeth m eitelberger.
